Song of Songs 2:8-9 TPT
“Listen! I hear my lover’s voice. I know it’s him coming to me- leaping with joy over mountains, skipping in love over the hills that separate us, to come to me. Let me describe him: he is graceful as a gazelle, swift as a wild stag. Now he comes closer, even to the places where I hide. He gazes into my soul, peering through the portal as he blossoms within my heart.”
The Song of Songs is one of the most significant books in the Bible for me; it is the book the Lord used to teach me how to walk with Him. Through the Song of Songs, I discovered that our walk with Jesus is supposed to be a walk of love, after all, He is our Bridegroom and we are His Bride. (Ephesians 5:22-33; Revelation 19:7-8; Revelation 21)
In fact, the Lord is always quick to remind me that He called me to love, especially, when I start getting into works and stop not resting on His grace. Indeed, it was for love that He came, love for broken and perishing humanity.
My relationship and walk with the Lord Jesus, therefore, has grown to become one of deep mutual love. I’m not sure if I can even call it mutual, because I can never compare the depth of His love with mine – He loved me to death!!! He died to ransom, purchase and restore me to Himself!
What Has This Got To Do With Prayer?
EVERYTHING!!! This love relationship is what forms the very foundation or basis for prayer!!! Prayer is the channel of communication or communion within this relationship of love. Prayer is what binds, strengthens and deepens the relationship between us and God.
It is through prayer that our fellowship with Him is enhanced, and we exchange thoughts and ideas with heaven. We express our love for the Father in praise and worship, and talk to Him about what is on our hearts. He also responds and reveals His heart and mind, plans and purposes to us.
- Unfortunately, for many, prayer has become a battleground with the devil or a place where we are constantly asking for things, like children.
Through Song of Songs 2:8-14, the Lord taught me to understand the call to love and communion between us and Himself. This understanding totally transformed and gave more meaning to my prayer life. The Passion Translation puts it very vividly – take your time to read it through…
Song of Songs 2:10-14 TPT “10 The one I love calls to me: Arise, my dearest. Hurry, my darling. Come away with me! I have come as you have asked to draw you to my heart and lead you out. For now is the time, my beautiful one. 11 The season has changed, the bondage of your barren winter has ended, and the season of hiding is over and gone. The rains have soaked the earth 12 and left it bright with blossoming flowers. The season for singing and pruning the vines has arrived. I hear the cooing of doves in our land, filling the air with songs to awaken you and guide you forth. 13 Can you not discern this new day of destiny breaking forth around you? The early signs of my purposes and plans are bursting forth. The budding vines of new life are now blooming everywhere. The fragrance of their flowers whispers, "There is change in the air." Arise, my love, my beautiful companion, and run with me to the higher place. For now is the time to arise and come away with me. 14 For you are my dove, hidden in the split-open rock. It was I who took you and hid you up high in the secret stairway of the sky. Let me see your radiant face and hear your sweet voice. How beautiful your eyes of worship and lovely your voice in prayer.”
- This is the call of the Spirit to the Church, the Bride of Christ, in this season. A call to love; a call to come away from the hustle and bustle into the secret place of prayer, to fix our gaze on Jesus, worship Him, talk to Him, listen to Him through the Word and His Spirit, seek grace and strength, and receive instructions for daily living!
May I share a secret with you? Sometimes, I also say to the Lord, “Let me also see Your face and hear Your voice. For Your face is lovely and Your voice is sweet.” He is always quick to respond with revelations of Himself, both through the Word and by His Spirit! This is what makes my prayer life exciting and fruitful!!! Why don’t you try it?
