Sin derailed us from God’s standard of righteousness – what is morally right, good, and acceptable, and consistent with Himself, His word, holiness and goodness. Not only does God’s character reveal His righteousness, He also declared it as His name.
7. JEHOVAH TSIDKENU
Meaning: The Lord our Righteousness
Jeremiah 23:5-6 NLT
“”[5] For the time is coming,” says the LORD, “when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. [6] And this will be his name: ‘The LORD Is Our Righteousness.’ In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.”
In Hebrew, Tsedek (tseh’-dek), from which Tsidkenu derived, means “to be stiff,” “to be straight,” or “righteous”. Jehovah Tsidkenu can be translated as “The Lord Who is our Righteousness.”
Hallelujah! Praise God we now have a right standing with God through Jesus Christ. He shed His precious blood to cleanse us from sin and present us blameless before the Father. We have been made righteous, have a right-standing with God, as a result of this. Jesus Christ is our King of Righteousness.
Apostle Paul gave a brilliant exposition on this in his letter to the Romans…
Romans 3:21-26 NLT
“[21] But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. [22] We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. [23] For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. [24] Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. [25] For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, [26] for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
HALLELUJAH! AMEN!!!
