The Whole Armour Of God (2):
The Man Who Met Legion

There was once a man with an unclean spirit who roamed naked around the mountains and tombs, in the country of the Gadarenes. This demon-possessed man was so wild and violent that no one could bind or tame him. All attempts to restrain him with chains and shackles had failed, as he simply pulled them apart and broke them into pieces. This tormented man was heard, day and night, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

One day, a boat arrived on the shores of the lake, and another Man stepped out of the boat. Immediately, the demon-possessed man rushed out to meet Him. Every one stood still in panic, wondering what was going to happen! Would he attack and rip Him to pieces?

However, with such anguish, the tormented man crumbled and got on his knee before the other Man, and crying out with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.”

The Man, Jesus, asked him, “What is your name?” And he replied, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” In the Roman army, a legion was a division consisting of 3000-6000 soldiers! This man had been possessed by a legion (a very large number) of demonic, unclean spirits!

People watched agape, as the demons earnestly begged Jesus not to send them out of the country, but rather into a large herd (about two thousand) of swine feeding near the mountains. At once, Jesus gave them permission and the unclean spirits went out of the man and entered the swine; the herd ran violently into the sea and drowned!

The horde of demons could not attack or overpower Jesus; rather, they bowed before Him in surrender! What an incredible demonstration of the authority and power that Jesus Christ, the Son of God has over the powers of darkness! How easily they recognise Him and how willingly they submit to His authority.

This same Jesus Christ, is the One whose body we are; He is the one who is building His Church that the gates of hell cannot prevail against. He is the One who possess all authority and has given us authority to go out in His name, to proclaim the Gospel and overcome the works of darkness.

Luke 10:19 NLT
“Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”

The Body of Christ must be equipped and built to know Jesus Christ, the Son of God and mature in the Lord and measure to His full and complete stature. We caught a glimpse of His stature when He met legion; this is the stature we must come into and possess!

It is only by putting on the whole armour of God that we can operate in the capacity of Jesus Christ. Having on the whole armour of God, we shall not be intimidated by anything; we shall lose our weakness, fears and powerlessness and stand in the midst of the raging battle for our families, communities and nations.

Ephesians 6:11, 13 NKJV
“[11] Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil…[13] Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
