4. THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST (1)
Mark 16:17-18 NKJV
“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; [18] they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Beloved, there is so much more working for us than against. How awesome it is that Jesus also gave us His name as a symbol of authority, in dealing with the powers of darkness and their works.
THERE IS POWER IN THE NAME
Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
To understand the power that we have in the name of Jesus, we must first understand God’s dealings with the people of Israel – they walked with God by experience. Through His mighty works, God made a NAME for Himself. In other words, the manifestation of God’s Name to Israel was always by experience; with God actively participating in their affairs. The LORD gained reputation in Israel and surrounding nations, as His power and ability was revealed in His Names.
IMMANUEL
The names of Jesus also reveals His involvement with us, His Church. Long before He was born, God revealed through the prophet Isaiah that Jesus the Messiah would be born of a virgin, and His symbolic and prophetic name would be Immanuel meaning ‘God with us’ or “with us is God.”
Thus the name Immanuel reveals the presence, power and glory of God among His people. Immanuel is the sign that God is with us to protect us, and to destroy the works of satan, sin and death against us. God is with us to fight for us, overcome the enemy and save and deliver us from him and give us victory over his power and works.
YESHUA
When the time came for Isaiah’s to be fulfilled, God sent an angel to a virgin, Mary, with a message that she would conceive and bear a Son by the Spirit, “and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
However, the angel also revealed another name, for Immanuel – Yeshua (Jesus)
Luke 1:32-33 NKJV
“[31] And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. [32] He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. [33] And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Jesus, Hebrew: Yeshua, means “JEHOVAH IS SALVATION”
The angel repeated this to Joseph, Mary’s husband, when he visited him in a dream to ask him not to put Mary away but take her as His wife…
Matthew 1:21 NKJV
“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
JESUS IS IMMANUEL FULFILLED
Matthew 1:22-23 NKJV
“[22] So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: [23] “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.””
Yeshua reminds us of another man who bore the same name, Joshua, the son of Nun. Joshua was the one who took Israel across the Jordan into the Promised Land. Joshua was the one who led Israel in fighting many battles to take the territories God had given to them.
When Jesus promised us the use of His name, He was assuring us that God is with us, and that He will save, deliver and help us!
Psalm 9:10 TPT
“For everyone who knows your wonderful name keeps putting their trust in you. They can count on you for help no matter what. O Lord, you will never, no never, neglect those who come to you.” AMEN!!!

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
