We have just one more week to complete our marathon of thanking, praising and worshipping the Lord! I am grateful to the Holy Spirit for enabling us focus our attention on God and acknowledge and worship Him in diverse ways, during this glorious month of October.
For the next few days, however, I would like to focus our worship on Jesus Christ. He is our Saviour, Kinsman Redeemer, Brother, Friend, Bridegroom, Prophet, High Priest, King and God; He is my Personal Friend and Lover. Jesus is alone is worthy, and deserves our thanksgiving, praise and worship.
I have a playlist in my music library, entitled, “Simply Jesus…! 💜❤” This playlist has seventy songs of worship that focus just on Jesus. This shows how much I love Him, and how important it is to me, to worship Him.
Today, I would like to draw one song from that playlist, a popular hymn that I love so much – HOW SWEET THE NAME OF JESUS SOUNDS by John Newton. I am simply going to share the lyrics, which are a sermon on their own…
- How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrow, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear. - It makes the wounded spirit whole
And calms the troubled breast;
‘Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest. - Dear Name! the Rock on which I build;
My shield and hiding-place;
My never-failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace, - Jesus, my Shepherd, Husband, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring. - Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I’ll praise Thee as I ought. - Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And may the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death.
I love Chris Bowater’s version of this hymn, and invite you to join me in singing these beautiful words about Jesus. My prayer is that, as you sing and reflect on the lyrics, you will find hope, encouragement and an answer to every need, in the name of Jesus. Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”
“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
