Becoming A Fruitful Bough Of Christ (3):
The Importance Of Bearing Fruit

God’s principles and laws embedded in the Creation do not change. When God created the world, He programmed and commissioned everything to be reproductive, that is, to bear fruit and multiply, so that there would be increase, continuity and preservation for posterity.

Genesis 1:22 NKJV
“And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

God loves fruitfulness. God blessed the Creation to be fruitful. He also blessed man and woman to be fruitful…

Genesis 1:28 NKJV
“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

After Noah’s flood, God again declared in Genesis 8:22…

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.”

THE SEED

The first essential element of fruitfulness is the seed. You cannot have fruit without seed. A seed is, basically, is a copy of the plant it came from and would reproduce. Genetically, the seed has within itself, all the information needed to grow into a complete tree or plant of the same type. Therefore, the seed always determines everything about the tree and its fruit.

This was why God determined the role of the seed in fruitfulness, right the beginning of Creation

Genesis 1:11-12 NASBS
“[11] Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. [12] The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.”

If you come across a tree and are not sure what kind of tree it is, just look for fruit, or wait until the tree bears fruit and you will know what tree it is. The seed that was sown, would ensure that the tree produces fruit after its kind. Thus, the fruit can help you identify the seed, roots and the tree it’s been produced from.

Matthew 7:16-18 NASBS
“[16] You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? [17] So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. [18] A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.”

This is why it is important and necessary that we, as believers, produce the fruit of Christ. People will only see that we are a part of Him, when they see His fruit in us. If the fruit of our lives that doesn’t look like, feel like, smell like or taste like Christ, then we are not of Christ, because the seed of Christ in us can only produce the inner fruit of Christlikeness in us.

A wise old woman once said to me, “It is fruit that will get us into heaven and nothing else; not even our works. Remember the thief on the cross next to Jesus? He got into paradise because right at the end, he displayed the fruit of repentance, kindness, humility and righteousness, and entered heaven.”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
