God has a covenant of fruitfulness with us. Right from Genesis He set into motion a cycle of productivity, to ensure that we do not lack any good thing, whether seed or bread. The only thing that interrupted God’s beautiful cycle was sin.
Genesis 3:17-18 NKJV
“[17] ….Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. [18] Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.”
Sin caused the ground to harden and produce thorns and thistles, instead of the beautiful plants and herbs for food, etc. Adam was told by God that humanity would struggle in this. However, God never abandoned His covenant of fruitfulness with humanity, He continued to pursue it in Christ.
THE POWER OF THE WORD
Isaiah 55:8-11 ESV
“[8] For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. [10] “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, [11] so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
God promised that His word would come as the rain and snow, water and tend the ground, and cause fruitfulness again, giving seeds for us to sow and bread for us to eat! Praise God for Jesus Christ, the Word of God, who came and broke the curse, and through Him we can be fruitful again! This fruitfulness is not only physical, it is also spiritual.
John 15:7-8 NKJV
“[7] If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. [8] By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
AN EVERLASTING COVENANT
Isaiah 55:12-13 NKJV
“[12] For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. [13] Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
This is an awesome scripture with so much promise! Yes, we can overcome the wayside, stoney and thorny grounds; instead, through the power of the word, we can have good soil and produce a lot of fruit for the kingdom.
God has promised that we shall experience all of life’s situations with joy, and be led forth by the LORD, the Prince of Peace Himself. The mountains and the hills shall break forth before us into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands – obstacles, hindrances, etc shall give way and bring forth joy and praise in our lives.
Instead of the thorns will come the cypress tree – that which is evergreen and durable; Instead of the briers will come the myrtle – that which is evergreen and fragrant. This will bring glory to God and bring us into an eternal covenant with Him.
2 Corinthians 9:8-11 NKJV
“[8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. [9] As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” [10] Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, [11] while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.”
May God cause us to produce the fruit of Christ, that is, bear the fruits of righteousness in every area of our lives, as a witness to the world that we are Christians, true disciples and followers of Jesus Christ.
AMEN AND AMEN!!!
