BUILDING TRUST IN THE LORD (13):
The Character Of God (7)

Let’s continue our journey of growing to trust God, by looking at another component of His character; this might help us to trust Him more.

5. GOD IS FAITHFUL

    1 Corinthians 1:9 AMP
“God is faithful [He is reliable, trustworthy and ever true to His promises- He can be depended on], and through Him you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

God is faithful. He cannot be anything else but faithful, because to do so would mean to deny Himself, which He cannot do. His Truth determines His faithfulness because He cannot lie. God reveals His faithfulness by keeping His covenants and promises.

    Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV
“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”

The Hebrew word for faithful is ‘emunah’ – certain and dependable. Synonyms for faithful include – to be steadfast, loyal, reliable, constant, committed, firm, devoted, unfaltering, unwavering, staunch, true, authentic, truthful, believable and trustworthy.

God’s faithfulness is a commitment on His part, and is as dependable as the schedule appearances of the sun and moon.

    Psalm 89:2 NKJV
“For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.””

Many of us live outside the perspective of God’s faithfulness. Actually, we take so much for granted – our families, health, jobs, houses, etc., not pausing to reflect and realise that all we have and all that happens to us is a result of God’s faithfulness. We don’t trust God and complain and murmur against Him, because He doesn’t answer our prayers the way we want Him to.

    THE WITNESS IN THE SKY

However, the Bible tells us that God’s mercy and faithfulness are as dependable as sunrise and sunset. God is always there and will always be there every time you wake up in the morning and when you go to bed at night and through your sleep.

Therefore, the sun and moon in the skies are a perfect witness and testify to God’s faithfulness. (Psalm 19:1

    Psalm 89:37 NKJV
“It shall be established forever like the moon, even like the faithful witness in the sky.” Selah”

Pause for a moment and think. What if you woke up and there was no sunrise and the sun had totally disappeared. I’m not talking about a cloudy day; I’m talking about the sun vanishing totally. What do you think would happen?

There would be utter darkness and chaos. The moon, of course, would also wane forever, as it depends on the sun to shine. There would be no heat, and temperatures would drop to freezing; everything would freeze over. There would be no plants and vegetations, because the sun is needed for their growth and cultivation. The earth would veer off it’s course, because it’s orbit around the sun would be no more. Eventually, the disappearance of the sun would result in the extinction of all life on earth, including human beings!

Just think of this for a moment longer…. You will realise that the Bible is telling us something deeply profound, when it describes God’s faithfulness as reliable as the scheduled rising of the sun each day! If God stopped being faithful for a moment, our entire lives and world would fall apart.

    Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT
“[22] The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. [23] Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”

    THE WITNESS OF JESUS CHRIST

God’s name, word, works and deeds, all testify of His faithfulness. However, the greatest testimony of God’s faithfulness is His Son, Jesus Christ, who was given as a fulfilment of God’s covenant with humanity.

Throughout the scriptures, from Genesis to the Gospels and through to Revelation; in fact, right from the day man fell in the Garden of Eden and God promised redemption and restoration through the Seed of woman, God has revealed His faithfulness to us through His Son.

In every book of the bible, God revealed His plan for redemption and restoration. Centuries passed, until it was fulfilled, when Jesus came as human and died, resurrected and ascended back into heaven. Indeed, God’s faithfulnesses has been revealed to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

May you come to know, without a shadow of doubt that God is faithful. When He said He will never leave you nor forsake you, He meant it! When you wake up each morning, before you get out of your bed, turn your thoughts to God and thank Him for His faithfulness. AMEN!!!
