As children of God, it is essential and necessary for us to know and become well acquainted with our Father’s character, because that will help us to trust Him more. God certainly desires that we know Him, just as He revealed Himself to Moses.
Exodus 34:5-7 ERV
“[5] Then the LORD came down to him in a cloud, stood there with Moses, and spoke his own name. [6] That is, the LORD passed in front of Moses and said, “YAHWEH, the LORD, is a kind and merciful God. He is slow to become angry. He is full of great love. He can be trusted. [7] He shows his faithful love to thousands of people. He forgives people for the wrong things they do, but he does not forget to punish guilty people. Not only will he punish the guilty people, but their children, their grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren will also suffer for the bad things these people do.””
PERFECT IN CHARACTER
Character is defined as: “The complex mental and emotional qualities that distinguish an individual” Therefore, all the intricate, yet distinguishing, attributes of God are interwoven with each other to produce a perfect character. One can unquestionably say that God is perfect in character.
Psalm 145:8-9 NASBS
“[8] The LORD is gracious and merciful; slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. [9] The LORD is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works.”
Psalm 145:13b-19 ESV
“[13] …The LORD is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works. [14] The LORD upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. [15] The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. [16] You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. [17] The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. [18] The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. [19] He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.”
YES, GOD IS PERFECT IN CHARACTER.
- His goodness is the reason for His compassion, kindness and generosity.
- His mercy is a product of goodness, compassion longsuffering and love.
- God’s longsuffering is a display of His power, mercy, patience and love.
- His grace is the substance, definition and evidence of His love.
- His faithfulness is revealed in His mercy, love, goodness and all His other attributes.
- His holiness and purity, truth and power guarantee His justice and righteousness
- His love is the foundation on which all His other attributes are built and displayed.
Behold, this is our amazing, awesome and unchanging God! What is even more amazing and awesome is that He is the same (all these attributes), everyday and at all times; yesterday, today and forever! Hallelujah! The hymn by John Hart comes to mind.
This, this is the God we adore,
Our faithful, unchangeable friend,
Whose love is as great as His power,
And knows neither measure nor end.
‘Tis Jesus, the first and the last,
Whose Spirit shall guide us safe Home;
