BUILDING TRUST IN THE LORD (50):
God Has Committed Himself To Us (1)

For several weeks, we have been discussing how we can build trust in the Lord. We live in very challenging times and, at times, all we can do is to hold on to God in simple trust. The stronger our trust, the deeper our serenity.

As we bring these teachings to a conclusion, let us consider one more thing about God that should help us build trust in Him – the simple fact that GOD IS COMMITTED to us!!!

Having proved His character, ability, strength and truth, and having declared Himself as the Limitless God, the Lord showed one more thing that makes Him trustworthy – the fact that He has committed and bound Himself to us! Yes, God has bound Himself to us by His Word and promises.

THE POWER OF A PROMISE

A promise is a statement of intention to act or refrain from acting in a specified way, that justifies another person in understanding that a commitment has been made. Legally, if one party makes a statement or a promise that causes another party to rely on that statement in such a way that he or she is financially injured by that reliance, then a court will enforce the statement or promise as if it was a completed contract. This is how powerful a promise could be, by Law!

God has made many promises to us; the Word of God is full of them! Every promise of God is a statement of intention to act on our behalf, that is, to be our God, save us, help us, deliver and protect us, heal us, bless us, etc. God’s promises are so assuring that we are justified to believe and think that a commitment has been made by Him to us. In fact, this is so true, because God has committed Himself to us!

GOD HAS COMMITTED HIMSELF TO US!

Hebrews 6 explains this plainly and clearly to us, using God’s promise to Abraham as an example. I love reading it in the Passion Translation….

Hebrews 6:13-18 TPT
“[13] Now when God made a promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater than himself, he swore an oath on his own integrity to keep the promise as sure as God exists! [14] So he said, “Have no doubt, I promise to bless you over and over, and give you a son and multiply you without measure!” [15] So Abraham waited patiently in faith and succeeded in seeing the promise fulfilled. [16] It is very common for people to swear an oath by something greater than themselves, for the oath will confirm their statements and end all dispute. [17] So in the same way, God wanted to end all doubt and confirm it even more forcefully to those who would inherit his promises. His purpose was unchangeable, so God added his vow to the promise. [18] So it is impossible for God to lie for we know that his promise and his vow will never change! And now we have run into his heart to hide ourselves in his faithfulness. This is where we find his strength and comfort, for he empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time—an unshakable hope!”

Every word and promise of God binds Him to us! As incredible as it sounds, we need to know, believe and accept that the ineffable, immutable and illimitable God has committed and bound Himself to us, through His Word and His promises. As if these were not enough, He went ahead and added His oath! These are legal matters, which we must wake up and pay attention to! Honestly, it is time for us to start believing…

Isaiah 45:19 NLT
“I publicly proclaim bold promises. I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner. I would not have told the people of Israel to seek me if I could not be found. I, the LORD, speak only what is true and declare only what is right.”

God does not casually make promises to us; He goes beyond Himself and swears an oath to make His promise legally binding. As they say, God’s word is His bond! AMEN!!!

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
