We feel led to take a short break from the series of teachings on Building Trust In The Lord, to encourage you to come to a deeper knowledge of and walk with the Holy Spirit.
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, and there is a need for each of us to encounter and experience Him afresh. Therefore, for the next few days, we shall be discussing the topic, “YOU NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT!” We shall, however, focus on the identity of the Holy Spirit; Who is He?
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Who is the Holy Spirit, and what do you know about Him?
1. The Holy Spirit has been from the beginning.
The first thing to know is that the Holy Spirit was in existence long before the day of Pentecost The Holy Spirit moved upon the face of the waters and was the active “Agent” in Creation, until the Word came forth.
Genesis 1:1-2 NLT
“[1] In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [2] The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”
3. The Holy Spirit is a Person.
Many think of Him as a thing, force, spirit or ‘ghost.’ The truth is that the Holy Spirit is a Person, just like the Father and Son.
a. The Holy Spirit has qualities that are only found in a person:
- The Holy Spirit has intellect – 1 Corinthians 2:10
- The Holy Spirit has knowledge – 1 Corinthians 2:11
- The Holy Spirit has emotions – Ephesians 4:30
- The Holy Spirit has His own will and He makes decisions – Acts 16:6
- The Holy Spirit loves – Romans 15:30
b. The Holy Spirit is able to do certain things that a person can do:
- The Holy Spirit speaks – 1 Timothy 4:1-2
- The Holy Spirit teaches you things about God and yourself – John 14:26
- The Holy Spirit tells the truth – John 15:26
- The Holy Spirit guides – John 16:13
- The Holy Spirit convinces and convicts – John 16:8
- The Holy Spirit prays for you – Romans 8:26-27
- The Holy Spirit commands – Acts 13:2
- The Holy Spirit gives birth – John 3:5-8
- The Holy Spirit regenerates us – Titus 3:4-5
As a Person, the Holy Spirit would very much like a relationship with us. We shall continue our discussion next time.

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”
“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
