We are engaged in a spiritual warfare with the powers and forces of darkness, and God has provided a comprehensive and effective spiritual armour for us; to help us fight the battle and give us victory over the enemy. (Ephesians 6:13). The fifth component of our armour is the Helmet of Salvation.
5. THE HELMET OF SALVATION
Ephesians 6:17a NLT
“Put on salvation as your helmet…”
The Roman soldier’s helmet was the last piece of armor to go on, as he prepared for battle. It was his final act of readiness in preparation for combat. The Roman soldier’s helmet served two key purposes – protection and identification.
FOR PROTECTION
A soldier’s helmet was vital for survival, protecting the brain, which is the command station for the rest of the body. If the head was badly damaged, the rest of the body would be of little use. Thus protecting the head was of great importance.
The believer’s mind is a major area that the enemy often attacks. Satan cannot read our minds, so he bombards us with accusations, lies and all kinds of thoughts. Satan often questions our salvation and deliverance from sin and death; both in the present and in eternity. He often questions our identity, status and position in Christ, which produces fear and insecurity.
As a young believer, for a while, I kept going forward in response to every “altar call” for salvation; because I wasn’t sure whether I was saved or not. There was no remarkable change in my life, I was still plagued by the same fears, anxieties and insecurities (especially the fear of death).
However, someone sat me down and took me through several scriptures to assure me that putting my faith in Jesus Christ and committing my life to Him, as my Lord and Saviour, had secured my salvation, here and in eternity. This assurance of salvation was like a helmet that protected my mind from the onslaught of the enemy.
Romans 10:13 NLT
“For everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
The assurance of salvation is the guarantee that once someone has put their faith in Jesus Christ, repented of their sins, and has entered into a relationship with God, they are sealed with the Holy Spirit and are guaranteed their sins are fully forgiven. They are saved and will go to Heaven after they die.
John 3:16 NKJV
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10:9 NLT
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Ephesians 2:8 TPT
“For by grace you have been saved by faith. Nothing you did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the love gift from God that brought us to Christ!”
We are to draw from the many benefits of salvation. Salvation is not only about deliverance from hell. It includes our reconciliation with God, redemption, justification and restoration and sanctification, all of which produce spiritual, physical, mental and emotional wholeness and prosperity. Above all, salvation assures us of eternity with God in heaven.
Romans 8:38-39 NLT
“[38] And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. [39] No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” AMEN AND AMEN!

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”
“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!”[Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
