The Whole Armour Of God (20):
The Sword Of The Spirit (2)

The sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon that God has provided for us to fight with. We must, therefore, learn to use it adeptly and effectively.

2 Samuel 23:2 NKJV
“The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue.”

The sword of the Spirit is not just the written word of God, but the written word of God spoken directly into the conflict or battle you are facing. The Holy Spirit is the authority that undergirds the written word; He is the one who inspired and breathed the holy scriptures. Therefore, that same authority is released when we speak forth the word.

THE POWER INHERENT IN GOD’S WORD.

The word of God has an inherent power to create and bring all of God’s intentions and purposes into manifestation. The word of God always has the power to fulfil and accomplish the purpose for which God initially uttered or spoke it.

Isaiah 55:11 NKJV
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

This inherent power of God’s word is active and effective, whether the word is spoken by God or spoken and declared by us, His people. Therefore, we need to increase our faith and confidence in the word of God and its power and ability to accomplish the purpose for which it was released; in order to use it as an effective weapon in fighting the enemy.

THE POWER OF THE SPOKEN WORD

The power of the spoken word is demonstrated in the story of Jesus’ encounter with the centurion.

Matthew 8:8-9 NKJV
“[8] The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. [9] For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.””

The centurion was well acquainted with the power and effectiveness of a spoken word that is backed with authority! We are also people under authority; Jesus has given us authority over the powers and works of darkness. We have been given the authority to speak forth the word.

Therefore, when engaging in warfare, we must take the written word and speak it forth and declare it to the situation. When we are faced with a battle, be it temptation, fear, discouragement or sickness, we cannot just meditate and reflect on the word in our minds; we cannot just use our own words. WE MUST TAKE WHAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN IN THE WORD OF GOD ABOUT THE CHALLENGE WE ARE FACING AND SPEAK IT OUT AND DECLARE IT!

(Actually, as we go in the offensive with the spoken word, the shield of faith becomes more effective; remember, faith comes by hearing and hearing the word).

Indeed, there is power in God’s word when we speak it into our spiritual battles. You must speak up and speak out the Word of God in warfare because this is the only offensive weapon, and this is how you will defeat the enemy.

Revelation 12:10-11 NASBS
“[10] Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. [11] And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony….” AMEN!
