The Whole Armour Of God (32):
Using Our Authority In Christ (2)

As sons of God in Christ Jesus, our battle with Satan is about our destiny and inheritance, and the destinies of our families, communities, cities and nations. Satan will do everything in his power to stop you from knowing your true identity and the God-given authority that you have over him.

This is why our walk with God is crucial to successful spiritual warfare. Our sensitivity and obedience to God’s word and the Holy Spirit determine how we exercise the authority we have been given.

Jesus Christ has given us the authority and power to preach the Gospel and proclaim the Kingdom, cast out demons, heal the sick and raise the dead, pull down strongholds and set the captives free. He has also give us the power to overcome temptations and sin, and be victorious in spiritual warfare.

Faith, belief and confidence in God and His word are essential. The disciples did not have the power to cast out a particular demon because of unbelief (Mark 9:14-29).

BINDING AND LOOSING

Binding and loosing is part of the authority Jesus Christ has given us. Learning to use this authority will make us more effective in our spiritual battles, especially, in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Matthew 16:19 NASBS
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

KEYS: First of all, Jesus said He has given us the keys of the Kingdom. Keys denote access, authority and power. The keeper of the keys has the power to open and to shut. (Isaiah 22:22; Revelation 3:7)

TO BIND: Jesus has given us authority to bind, which means to tie, fasten, fasten with chains, to throw into chains; to put under obligation of the law, duty; it means to FORBID, prohibit, declare something to be illicit.

TO LOOSE: Jesus has given us the authority to loose, which means to undo, dissolve, loosen anything bound, tied, or joined together; to unbind, release from bonds, set free; to discharge from prison, let go; to declare something as unlawful. It is to deprive of authority; to break up, demolish, destroy; to overthrow or do away with something. To loose means to PERMIT.

These definitions are self explanatory and show us the level of the authority that we have in Christ and how we can exercise that in warfare!! Through the word of God and prayer, we can determine the mind and will of God concerning any situation and bind (forbid) or loose (permit) it accordingly. We can stand in this authority to pray for ourselves, families, communities, cities and towns, and heaven will back our prayers and declarations.

Matthew 6:10 NKJV
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

However, it is important to note two things:

  1. We don’t have the power and authority to bind people or get them to do something against their will.
  2. We cannot bind Satan. We can bind his evil works in the lives of people, communities and nations. However, we can ask God to rebuke him. (Jude 9)

Finally, the authority to bind and loose is from God and will only work if it corresponds to His word and will in heaven. It means that we have to be in constant communication with God through prayer, to determine His will – what heaven has bound or loosened.

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
