The armour of God has several components, which together, provide effective protection and spiritual weapons for the believer’s warfare. The first component of the believers’ armour is the belt of truth…
Ephesians 6:13-14 NKJV
“[13] Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [14] Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth…”
Ephesians 6:14 NLT
“Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth…”
1. THE BELT OF TRUTH
It is not by chance that the belt of truth is mentioned as the first ‘piece’ of the believer’s armour. God is truth, therefore, the truth must be foundational and fundamental in every area of our lives.
Two lines from William B. Yates’ poem, The Second Coming, describes what happens when the “belt of truth” is removed from our lives and from every area of culture and society.
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.
Unfortunately, existential beliefs have removed truth as the pivot and everything is spinning out of control in our world!
MORE THAN JUST SPEAKING THE TRUTH
The belt of truth is more than just always speaking the truth. It is knowing the truth concerning God and the things of God, as written in the scriptures and revealed through Christ Jesus, the Living Word, the Truth.
In the Roman army, the belt secured and held the soldier’s entire garment together. In the same way, the truth keeps us secured and anchored in the Lord, and not deceived or swayed by the enemy. We are steadfast and immovable, in Christ.
The belt was also very essential, as it was where a Roman soldier would store their weapon! Thus, it is from the truth of God’s word that we are armed to stand against the enemy.
Jesus demonstrated this during His trial in the wilderness, just before He began His ministry. Jesus overcame the temptations of the devil, because He knew the truth. Each time, Jesus responded to Satan’s temptations with the truth… “IT IS WRITTEN.”
As believers, we must let the the truth of Jesus Christ be central to our lives to – know it, live and walk by it and proclaim it. Knowing the truth empowers us to walk in the fullness of liberty and gives us victory in our contentions with the enemy. God’s word is truth.
John 8:32 NLT
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”
“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
