BUILDING TRUST IN THE LORD (6):
The Character Of God (1)

God is not to be worshipped as an idol or image. He is a person, who very much wants a relationship with His people. I learnt by experience that when the Lord said “I will teach you to trust Me,” He meant, “I will teach you to know Me better and build an intimate relationship with Me, based on how well you know Me.”

Jeremiah 9:23-24 NLT
“[23] This is what the LORD says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. [24] But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly KNOW ME and UNDERSTAND that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken!”

As believers, our boast in life should not be in the wisdom, power and possessions that God has given us. Our boast should be in how intimate and well acquainted we are with the LORD, His word, ways and works!

THE CHARACTER OF GOD.

By definition, to TRUST God is to know Him well enough “to have complete assurance, certitude and confidence regarding His CHARACTER, ABILITY, STRENGTH and TRUTH.” Thus, the Lord began the journey of teaching me to trust Him by first focusing on His CHARACTER.

The Holy Spirit was ever present and helped me to turn to the word of God. I spent hours reading and studying the scriptures, and actually, every Friday became my “sabbath” as I locked myself in my bedroom to read, study and meditate on the word. (This is where my knowledge of God’s word comes from, though I’ve never been to Bible School. God gave me a great teacher in the Person of the Holy Spirit, who delights in showing us the truths about God, which are embedded in His word).

WHAT IS CHARACTER?

Character is defined as: “The complex mental and emotional qualities that distinguish an individual” It is the nature, personality, make-up, credentials or reputation of an individual.

What are the complex and essential qualities that distinguish God and constitute His character? Why should we have confidence in Him? This was what Moses earnestly desired to know, when he cried out to God, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” (Exodus 33:18).

SHOW ME YOUR GLORY!

Moses had seen God’s power and might at work. He had seen God in a burning bush; he had seen God part the Red Sea and seen Him speak from a shaking mountain, but Moses still did not know the essence of who God was. Hence, his cry, “Please, show me Your glory.”

The Lord’s replied to Moses’s request by promising to reveal His glory, that is, His character and nature, and the essence of who He is, as God.

Exodus 33:19 NKJV
“Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”

Moses’ prayer should be the prayer and heartcry of every one who wants to know God and learn to trust Him… “Father, show me Your glory! Show Yourself to me in a personal way, that I might know you! AMEN!

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
