BUILDING TRUST IN THE LORD (7):
The Character Of God (2)

Moses’s desire to know God in a more personal way was heard in his prayer, “Please, show me Your glory!” God hid Moses in the cleft of a rock and, as He passed by, proclaimed His name and attributes; revealing the essence of His multifaceted nature and character.

Exodus 34:6-7 NASBS
“[6] Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; [7] who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

From then on, the Bible continues to show us glimpses of God’s character; especially, through men like King David who got to know God in a personal and special way, and wrote extensively about Him. The scriptures are very clear and self explanatory…

Psalm 103:7-14 NLT
“[7] He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. [8] The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. [9] He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. [10] He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. [11] For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. [12] He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. [13] The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. [14] For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.”

Psalm 145:8-9 NLT
“[8] The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. [9] The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.”

Psalm 145:14-18 NKJV
“[14] The LORD upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. [15] The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. [16] You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. [17] The LORD is righteous in all His ways, gracious in all His works. [18] The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”

JESUS CHRIST

Like Moses, we also have been placed on the Rock, who is Jesus Christ, and from this position in Him, we can encounter, behold and experience the glory and character of God.

2 Corinthians 4:6 NKJV
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

John 1:14,16-18 NLT
“[14] So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son… [16] From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. [17] For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. [18] No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.”

Indeed, Jesus Christ, the Son of God came to reveal God’s character to us in a tangible and personal way. Our heart’s desire must be, to know and experience the true nature and character of our God. AMEN!

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
