THIS GREAT SALVATION! (6):
A Three-Fold Benefit Of This Great Salvation

As we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we are reflecting on the great salvation that He accomplished for us. (Hebrews 2:3) Jesus, the Son of God, became human and willingly suffered and died; to accomplish for us, a great work of deliverance, salvation and reconciliation with God.

Hebrews Chapter 2 reveals a three-fold benefit from this great work of salvation; let us explore these three blessings…

1. CHILDREN (SONS) IN GLORY

Hebrews 2:10-11 NLT
“[10] God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation. [11] So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.”

By becoming human, and through His suffering, death and resurrection, Jesus Christ could make us God’s children (sons) and bring us to glory; that is, make us like Him in glory.

Romans 8:29-30 NKJV
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”

Through Christ’s death, we have been saved and made sons of God, who have been called, justified, sanctified and are being glorified. God is in the process of transforming us into the image and likeness of Jesus.

2. FREEDOM FROM THE FEAR OF DEATH

Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT
“[14] Because God’s children are human beings-made of flesh and blood-the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. [15] Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.”

As a human being, though He was sinless, Jesus suffered a cruel and painful death, in order to set us free from the fear and power of death. His death broke the power and yoke of sin and set us free from the power of the devil, who had the power of death! Through His death, we are set free from bondage to the fear of dying. We no longer have to be afraid of death, for Jesus overcame and conquered it, giving us access to abundant life.

John 10:10 NKJV
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

3. A MERCIFUL HIGH PRIEST AND MEDIATOR

Hebrews 2:17-18 NLT
“[17] Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. [18] Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.”

Through His suffering, death and resurrection, Christ offered Himself as a sacrifice to God on our behalf; He became our High Priest and the perfect mediator between us and God. As our High Priest, Jesus has given us access to the Father and helps us when we are being tested.

Hebrews 4:14-16 NKJV
“[14] Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. [15] For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16] Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Prayerfully reflect on these three benefits, and praise and thank God for this great salvation that Jesus Christ accomplished for us. Glory be to God! Hallelujah!

Fulfilling Our Theme For 2024: “Building The Highway And Lifting The Banner”

“And in that day, there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him…. (therefore) Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway! Take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples!” [Isaiah 11:10, Isaiah 62:10]
